Pauline Sabin - 1887 to 1955
The movement to repeal prohibition was started by Pauline Sabin, who believed prohibition made the county a nation of hypocrites and that prohibition undermined the county's respect its laws. As a Republican she had seen many Republicans who were put in office by supporters of prohibition eagerly partaking in the consumption of alcoholic beverages at her parties. These same politicians in public presented themselves as opposing the repeal of prohibition, for fear of being thrown out of office by the "dry" voting blocks.
Pauline helped to found the Women's Organization for National Prohibition Reform; the group's sole purpose was to repeal Prohibition.
